Job Overview

As our Material Controller for Life Kitchens Manufacturing unit, you will be responsible for managing inbound material, inventory and production scheduling, to ensure the timely manufacture of furniture products. This role ensures that production goals are met on time and within budget, while maintaining high-quality standards and optimal inventory levels. You will report directly to the Group Production Control Manager, with dotted-line reporting into the Production Manager for the Life Kitchens Manufacturing unit.

Main Responsibilities

Material Control

·         Ensure timely release of external-parts, enabling on-time production;

·         Monitor the status of external-parts against delivery targets, ensuring potential issues are flagged and resolved before impacting production or delivery;

·         Collaborate across functions, ensuring internal scheduling and external-part delivery dates reflect changes to the planned delivery date, minimizing WIP and avoiding double-handling;

Inventory Control

·         Maintain optimal stock levels of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods;

·         Minimize excess inventory while preventing shortages of raw materials;

·         Liaise with suppliers and purchasing for material replenishment;

Production Scheduling:

·         Review and amend production schedules to ensure they are well-rationalized against the material plan;

·         Review and update assembly scheduling based on material inventory;

·         Review and issue machine schedules to production, ensuring opportunities are taken to enhance the flow of goods and minimize downtime;

·         Monitor compliance to production schedules, and use necessary reporting methods to feed back issues and opportunities for improvement;

Workflow & Process Ownership:

·         Monitor workflow to ensure timely and efficient manufacturing;

·         Track daily output, work-in-progress, and bottlenecks;

·         Interject directly with manufacturing personnel to avoid or recover from planning and production failures;

Leadership:

·         Be a role model to the Production & Office teams, embodying our people principles;

·         Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence;

·         Conduct regular training on production planning tools and procedures, inside and outside of the department;

Coordination & Communication:

·         Act as a communication bridge between planning, production, sales and purchasing;

·         Prepare documentation for sales to share insight into the status of production orders;

·         Escalate issues promptly through the appropriate channels;

 

Qualifications / Skills

·         Experience in supply-chain, production control, manufacturing planning or warehousing;

·         Strong knowledge of ERP / MRP systems and manufacturing software (eg. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics);

·         Proficient in Excel and M365 tools;

·         Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills;

·         Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
